Environmental engineering is an engineering discipline that provides education and research on the best use of natural resources such as air, water and soil, the control and elimination of the factors that cause their pollution at their sources, and the creation of environmental conditions suitable for human health and well-being , by preventing aesthetic and economic losses caused by pollution. The title of environmental engineer was used after the 1960s. Universities expanded their academic programs and considered environmental engineering as a separate science and engineering discipline.
The Faculty of Engineering and Architecture of Anadolu University, Department of Environmental Engineering, incorporated into Eskişehir Technical University on May 18, 2018, started the education by accommodating its first students in the fall semester of 1994-1995. Partial English classes began in the 1997-1998 academic year. The department had its first graduates in 1998. In the academic year 1998-1999 it was transferred to the İki Eylül campus. Teaching and research activities have been carried out in its new building on the İki Eylül campus since 1998. The department joined Eskişehir Technical University on May 18, 2018. In addition to undergraduate education, Master's with Thesis, Environmental Management Distance Education, Non-Thesis Master's and Doctorate education are given under the Department of Environmental Engineering at the Graduate Education Institute.
