Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: I will do an internship for the first time, what should I do?

A1: Eskişehir Technical University Faculty of Engineering Student Internship Directive and Department Internship Guide available at https://cevre.eskisehir.edu.tr/en/Icerik/Detay/legislation-and-procedure should be read and the Internship Procedure Flow Chart should be examined.

Q2: Can I do both internships in the civil or private sector?

A2: One civil and one private sector internship is recommended to ensure diversity in terms of professional gain. If an internship in the private sector/civil sector cannot be found, two civil/private sector internships can be considered.

Q3: Does the Internship Committee help to find an internship offer?

A3: The Internship Committee provides guidance about internship offers, but does not arrange internship offer individually. It is the student's responsibility to find an internship. The step that the Internship Committee can take in finding an internship offer is to announce the internship requests from different organisations to the students.

Q4: Can I do an internship during the semester and summer school?

A4: In both cases, internship can be done if the internship attendance can be provided for 3 full working days per week. Even if there is a single hour course requirement (e.g. ÇEV449, ÇEV450) in one day, that day cannot be counted as an internship working day.

Q5: The workplace I applied for an internship asked me for a document stating that I need to do an internship, where can I get it?

A5: The document requested from the internship workplace is the ‘Institution Internship Obligation Certificate’. It is located in the internship tab of our department's web page.

Q6: I will do my internship abroad during the summer holiday. How many working days will be counted if I do an internship for 3 months?

A6: Internships can be done abroad with the student's own means or within the scope of the Erasmus programme (internship period within the scope of the Erasmus programme is 3 months) for at least 20 working days, but in case of internship more than 20 working days, the internship is still counted as 20 working days.

Q7: Can a one-day internship be counted as two days by attending day and night shifts in workplaces that work more than one shift?

A7: No, it is not counted.

Q8:  If I think that my internship is unproductive after starting the internship or if my internship is terminated due to unethical behaviour, can I start an internship elsewhere? If I change the internship workplace, should I renew the SGK procedures?

A8: In such a case, the Internship Departure Form should be prepared and the internship commission should be contacted immediately. All processes including SGK registration should be restarted.

Q9: Will we do business or laboratory internship?

A9: There is no such distinction between internships in our department.

Q10: Can I do my internship in a single organisation or in more than two different organisations?

A10: Internships must be done in 2 different organisations. In exceptional cases, the number of organisations to do internship may change with the decision of the internship committee. It is expected that the experience to be gained from the civil or private sector to be interned will not overlap or repeat.

Q11: Can I start my internship during the exam week?

A11:  If the internship can be continued for 3 full working days without interruption during the exam week, the internship can be started. Even if there is a single hour of course obligation in a day, that day cannot be counted as an internship working day. In addition, students who do not have a make-up exam can start their internship during the make-up exam week.

Q12: Is an Environmental Engineer required to work in the organisation where I will do my internship?

A12: It is not compulsory but necessary to have an Environmental Engineer working in the organisation where the internship will be done. However, the ‘Criteria for Internship Wrokplaces’ in the Department Internship Guide must be taken into consideration.

Q13: How is internship abroad with our own means different from internship in our country?

A13:  In this case, insurance is not provided. Other than that, the procedure is the same as in our country.

Q14: Is it possible to do an internship on holiday between semesters?

A14: If there is no problem in terms of working days, it can be done. In such a case, you should contact the internship committee for detailed information.

Q15: How kind of acts should I take in Erasmus internship?

A15: In this context, the Internship Committee decides whether the workplace of internship is suitable or not. Other procedures are carried out by contacting the Erasmus Coordination Office of Department.

Q16: When should I make internship applications?

A16: The submission of documents to the Internship Committee can be made until the last week of the final exams, but applications for internship workplaces usually start in March.

Q17: Can I do my internships as 15+25 or 30+10 instead of 20+20?

A17: It is essential to do internships as 20+20.

Q18:  If the workplace where I will do my internship also works on Saturdays, can I count this to the internship period?
